Long on the road without a fixed plan. We are Raimundo and Miranda, two Dutch people who wanted to live life differently. We quit our jobs, sold nearly all our belongings, and made a conscious choice to live without a fixed base. Not a sabbatical with an end date, but an open journey that shapes itself along the way. Under the name Cruis’n Nomads, we travel overland  in our own car  through countries and continents. Slowly, with intention, and without a tight schedule or fixed plan.

Life before departure Before we left, we lived a perfectly ordinary life in the Netherlands. Steady jobs, a clear routine, future plans  everything neatly in order. But it felt less and less like our life. During earlier travels, especially through Africa, we noticed we lived differently on the road. Calmer, simpler, more present in the moment. Back in the Netherlands, that contrast kept growing. And at some point we knew: if we keep dreaming, nothing will happen. So we decided to actually take the leap.

The choice to let go Leaving wasn’t a spontaneous impulse. We doubted, calculated, talked it through, doubted again  and then made the call. Quit our jobs, sold our house and belongings. Everything that tied us to one place, we left behind.

Why overlanding? We choose overlanding because you truly see how the world flows together. Landscapes, cultures, languages  everything shifts step by step. That fits the way we want to travel. We have no fixed route. Sometimes we linger somewhere longer; sometimes we just drive on. Seasons, borders, the road, and the car set the pace. Plans are a guideline for us, not a rule.

Donkey  our home on wheels Our Land Cruiser is called Donkey. A Toyota Land Cruiser 79 with an Alu-Cab canopy  simple, tough, and reliable. Not fast, not luxurious, but built to keep going  or to sit perfectly still somewhere beautiful. Donkey is our transport, our home, and our base. When something breaks, everything pauses. Then it comes down to patience, tools, and improvisation  and usually it works out.

Life without a fixed base Living out of a Land Cruiser means making choices. Everything we own fits in the car. Our days consist of driving, cooking, sourcing water, shopping at local markets, doing laundry when we can  and when necessary, fixing things. It’s not a holiday; it’s a daily life that constantly changes its view. Sometimes dusty, sometimes chaotic, often beautiful.

What we want to show With Cruis’n Nomads, we share what long-term travel actually looks like. Not just the sunsets and campsites, but also the waiting, the searching, the doubt, and the moments when nothing goes according to plan  because that happens often enough. We show what works, what doesn’t, and what it’s like to let go of the familiar and build a different life on the road.

Our direction We have no endpoint  that’s exactly the charm. But we do have a goal: to eventually visit every continent. How long will that take? No idea. There’s no schedule, no plan  only the direction forward. We follow our curiosity, adjust along the way, and leave room for detours, because those are often the best part.

Why we share this Long-term travel is often romanticised. We want to show the other side too: the practical, the mental, and the very human side of this life on wheels.
